Issue Position: Local Aid

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

As a lifelong resident of Leominster, I have witnessed our community adopt a small-town feel with all the amenities of a larger city. Leominster epitomizes what Massachusetts city life should be like, and Beacon Hill should take notes on the Leominster model. This is obviously not happening because we see our legislature reducing local aid, while dedicating more money to the state's general fund to be divided up by Beacon Hill insiders.

Rewarding successful communities like Leominster should take priority over making drastic cuts to municipal aid. As your Representative, I will vote to restore municipal lottery aid and say "no" to the detour it has taken under the current leadership. As the fight continues over where the Casino revenue will be allocated, I will fight to bring that money back to our Leominster community. I also plan to make sure we cut wasteful spending at the state level before we consider cutting the lifeblood to our local communities.
